Re: [Harp-L] More gapping questions
Arcing the reed slightly will let you set the gap a little higher
and still get the overblow. I do this mostly with my fingers and a
brass pick that I use for gapping. Be gentle! It's difficult to
arc the 1 reeds because of the weighted tips. If you push the reed
down into the slot near the rivet end you can apply arc at that end
(nearest the rivet) and leave the rest of the reed fairly flat.

I'm re-gapping my SP20 in C and I've got the one blow nice and flat,
but apparently too flat. I can get the one blow to go by bending down
to the Db and then immediately blowing on that hole, but no amount of
pressure will give me that note by itself. However, I can OB that
hole, bend it all the way up to an E (or maybe just slightly below)
and even get a nice vibrato on it. So I guess this is the 90-10 thing
again. I love the response I'm getting on the OB...What's the trick
to
being able to play all 4 (5?) notes on this hole? If its arcing the
reeds slightly, can I do that with my gapping tool and shim without
screwing up the reed? Gosh, I wish I'd ventured down these paths
earlier in my career. :-)
