'Wizard' returns to Waukesha
Les Paul tours future exhibit space at museum

"It's good to be back," Paul said during a tour of the Waukesha 
County Historical Society and Museum space where the exhibit on 
him is planned.

Paul stopped in the city after being given a lifetime achievement 
award by a state music education group in Madison. Paul said he 
stopped in Waukesha "just to come home."

Paul, born Lester Polfuss, is credited with creating the solid-body 
electric guitar and the multitrack recording system. But "Red Hot Red" 
also was a star behind the microphone and in front of the cameras, 
having recorded several hits and television shows. Paul now lives in 
New Jersey.

Paul stood before a picture of himself, taken at the Schroeder Hotel 
in Milwaukee, where he is seen with his guitar and harmonica set.

"I should've brought my harmonica," Paul said. "It got me through 
school, and it will probably get me through the next place."
