Subject: [Harp-L] Jump blues opinions
I find myself gravitating more and more to jump blues and I would like to
start listening to some of the real deal 40s/50s stuff that's available.
But I'm interested in some opinions on where to start. When I browse
through bluebeatmusic.com there is so much available it's pretty
overwhelming!! Where do I start?
Thanks, Jay
Hi,
Joe Turner
Roy Brown
Wynonie Harris
Louis Jordan
Red Prysock
Hal Singer
Joe Houston
Tiny Bradshaw
Roy Milton
T-Bone Walker
Much of the harp style of Little Walter evolved from the sounds of Jump
blues horns, and I often find it quite ironic when I hear harp players hate
having a horn on thebandstand or get intimidated by them and clamp up
because if they quit bellyaching about it and listen with BIGGER EARS, they
could learn a lot from they're playing, which is precisely what Little
Walter did.
