RE: [Harp-L] Re: Favorite Harp Labeling Methods
I don't like marking my harps. I have a converted clarinet case that holds 16 diatonics and one chromatic. I know which harp goes to which slot and I put them back right away after each tune. There is also room in my case for one of those pen lights that theater techs use to see in the dark and not be distracting. The light works nicely for when it's too dark to see which end of the harp is which. Hope this helps.

I simply use Sharpie markers. You can get them in colors black or silver.
I lable the left end with as a straight harp and the right end as cross harp
(i.e. A - E). I also label the back, i.e. A/E. That way I have a couple of
visual references to work from. Lee Oskars are labeled nicely already. I
store them in a Mississppi Sax case most times but I also have an aluminum
stage case as well.

I fear the upside down harp solo - that's why I go with the yellow label
from the original box, placed on the top cover on the upper right. If I see
the label, of course I know the orientation. The only time that ever happens
to me is if I am flippin the harp or twirling it to show off and don't have
to grab a new key. Just desserts I suppose.
Also, I think it really depends all on how you store your harps while
performing. I do not use a case. (yet) I use a leather cartridge belt that
keeps two harps in each of the five pockets. I don't play the chrom, (yet)
so this works fine for me.
The only other instrument I could think of having that happen on would be
the tamborine. Nobody would notice that though.
