WELCOME TO HARPER'S NEWSLETTER, OCTOBER, 04
Hello all,
The band and I have just completed the long drive from California to the
midwest of the USA.. Its quite a drive!!!, but well worth the stunning
scenic beauty we all experienced along the way. September was a fantastic
month which began with a trip to Dallas, Texas for a show at Deep Ellum
Blues with promoter Doug Henry who used to own Blues Cat Blues. Doug &
Sandi are doing really well , it was great to catch up with them. Then it
was over to one of my favorite states : Colorado for shows in Denver,
Colorado Springs and Evergreen. The Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen was
packed to the rafters, such a great place to be. We stayed for a few days at
a house on the river. We saw a family of Elk and a herd of Bucks and even
found a snake living under the house. Its was a cool place to be and that
fresh mountain air really rejuvenates one?s spirit and soul.
After a side trip to Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri we headed back to
Colorado one more time for the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. This is the
second time I?ve had the pleasure of performing at this prestigious event
and it lived up to its promise of a brilliant weekend of music in one of the
most stunning locations in the world. We caught a few acts such as Shemekia
Copeland, and BB King which was a great experience. We recorded a live
album at the Nugget Theater which is available for down loads on
http://www.disclogic.com/recent-releases.jsp?brandID=260. The weather was
not the best, but thankfully the sun came out during our out door show.
After Telluride we drove through the mountains and desert to Las Vegas via
the Grand Canyon for a few days of fun. The Grand Canyon was awesome and the
lights of Vegas beckoned us as we headed into Nevada. We saw a shocking
accident involving two young girls on bikes as we entered the city. We all
said a prayer for them but only one girl made it. It was a sad thing to
see. With so much road travel its a sight we have unfortunately seen far too
many times. After Vegas we headed to the Colorado Belle Casino in
Laughlin, Nevada for the Fall Rhythm and Brews Festival. We performed with
awesome guitarist Michael Burks and John Earl and the Boogiemen. It was a
fabulous festival but it was soooo hot I nearly passed out from heat
exhaustion.
After Nevada we headed to San Francisco for a show at The Boom Boom Room
which was very cool. Ross Valory, Bass player for super group ?Journey? came
along to the show to say hi, which was a nice thing to happen. Then it was
off to Constable Jacks in Newcastle where we recorded a live broadcast with
KVMR. Moes Alley in Santa Cruz went well & I even got to meet my long lost
cousin Jane who has turned out to be a top photographer. The final show of
the tour took place at Cafe Boogaloo in Hermosa Beach. It was a superb show
and my Aunty even made it to the show, I would like to thank my brilliant
band Lee Lewis on Bass, Tyler Mac on guitar & Ken Garr on Drums. An awesome
group of guys who I will miss while back in Australia. So its back to the
Southern Hemisphere for yet another tour which begins in November. Thanks to
all the fans who came to check us out during the tour, with out you there
would be no music!!!! I will be touring the US and Canada again from May.
So until them,. All the best, Harper
