Re: [Harp-L] Why use an effects pedal?

I agree, good taste is key.

Just like spices, good effects help too.

Jim Zeller a local player, uses a Roland Space echo 'box' very effectively. He occasionally uses it to accompany himself by playing with his echo. Also octavers are really cool. When you buy a multi-effect, and you first try all the effects, the octaver is the big winner. At least in my book.

You are a chef. Foods you prepare have their own natural unique and wonderful flavor.

Why use spices?

Spices can enhance the flavor of food when used with restraint and good taste.

Effects pedals can enhance the sound/performance of a harmonica player when used with restraint and good taste.

Not everyone likes the prepararions of every chef.

Not everyone likes the effects sounds of every harmonica player.

Such is the world.

The Iceman

PS - I've discovered waterless cooking, in which the natural flavors of foods are so pronounced that use of spices is almost unnecessary. Likewise, at this time, I am enjoying a most natural harmonica sound w/out enhancements (except for a light glazing of delay).
