What does half diminished mean?
A diminished chord is a succession of three minor thirds stacked on top of
each other.

A half diminished chord takes that top minor third and changes it into a
major third (by raising the top note by 1/2 step).

It is used a lot as the ii chord in a Minor ii, V, I progression.
