[Harp-L] Do It Yourself Harmonica Maintenance

Howdy,

This is my first posting on your Harp-L list (it's a great source of information for the harmonica playing community).

I live in Australia where we should probably all be playing digeridoos but no matter where one lives they can still get infected with the old air born blues virus. I have played guitar for more decades than I can remember (please don't hold that against me) and guys like Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson kept popping up on the blues tunes I was learning for stage gigs and these guys lterally blew me away. So over the last few years I bit the bullet and have picked up and mastered the basics of blues harping in a few positions and some chromatic harping as well.

I have alot to share but first up I have a question - being in Australia there are not alot of great harp players like in the USA (although we have a few great players and I'll send some links through in subsequent posts). Finding information on how to maintain harps, tune them differently, fix a reed when it plays flat , custom tunings, tweeking harps for overblows etc. is hard, so can anyone help me out with links or resources to help. I'm getting fed up with recking my harps even more trying to fix them, I hope it's not a matter of trial and error as I can see that becoming a costly exercise.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards...Doug
