When the "sound check" starts, why is it the drums that always get 
set first?  This always seems to set the bar very high for the other 
instruments, and the most important things -- the vocals and the 
solo instruments -- have to get layered on top of everything last.  
There's got to be a better way to do this, setting a level at which 
the vocals and soloists sound good, then putting everything else 
below that.  Seems like that would keep the overall sound pressures 
down.
