This book was created more as an intellectual exercise into all intervalic possibilities rather than a handbook for using every scalemelodicpattern in a real sense.

It is best used as a reference for new ideas - open the book randomly and play a few of the ideas. Some will resonate within you, many will not. Choose to spend time with those that work for you and ignore those that don't.

The ones that you like may be analyzed as to how they were obtained by studying the pathe that Slonimsky took, but this is not necessary. Believe me, many great "licks" can be found and used without knowing how they were derived.

For serious students, this book should be part of your musical library.
