[Harp-L] Re : A harmonica saved my life= true story

All this lurking and religiously reading of Harp-L (even if it requires reading through a cellphone while on a boat, working)has finally paid off. This is a harp subject I can relate to:

A few years ago, I was in a rental car driving from Logan Airport towards someplace to spend the night on my way to a construction pre-bid the next morning. I managed to get turned around and found myself in a somewhat-less-than-desireable 'hood towards South Boston. Unless, of course, you were there to 'live the blues' or buy crack.

As I tried focusing my vision on the Hertz courtesy map by the dome light and continuing to drive, I realized that I was being scrutinized by a carload of locals. Note: At this point, I could digress into a politically and racially insensitive description of these gentlemen. However, by virtue of this disclaimer, I think you get the idea.

Now, I'm no anthropologist, but the aforementioned gentlemen seemed (as indicated by their gestures and vocalizing in the direction of my closed window) to be in an advanced state of agitation that may have telegraphed an aggressive attack behavior. The fact that I did my best to ignore yet monitor, didn't seem to help. This following and manuevering continued as I made my way back to the freeway. Once I got onto the interstate, I soon realized that the vehicle was maintaining close proximity shadowing. Whether this was prelude to a dogfight, is mere hindsight conjecture.

Thinking that the best defense is good offense, I harkened back to my old hand2hand instructor's mantra for a non-military confrontation, "the best time to drop a man....is while he's telling you how he's going to kick your ass". Not a new concept, but applicable if adapted correctly to many situations.

I unzipped my LeeOskar travel case, pulled out a handy 10-holer, and pinched it along the top of my closed hand, between my curled forefinger and my extended thumb.

If you use your imagination, are blessed with lowlight conditions, are fortunate enough to have some precipitation on your window glass, and gesture like a kid with your harp held just so........you can create enough of an illusion of a sidearm in the .380 to small 9mm size range to cause brakes to lock and any pursuit to cease cold. Cause and effect. I'm here to tell you.

Thanks for your time.
