Well I was at Billy Pickens place (up beat Music, in
Savannah Tn.) today.. getting info... or what to play
wityh the band for another round tommorow night, the
country gig..
Well I am going to be working on "Mustang Sally", the
closet they get to Blues, (BTW.. anybody have the
blow/ draw, notes to it? I can improvise..
as usual, but should I learn the song? or let me go
wild?
Its so I can get some quick practice tonight?
Anyway in his books for sale I noticed, "Harmonica
Primer for begginers" for C harp, by Tom Wolf..
let me write the paragraph I read in the back about
learning Cross harp.. (maybe somebody else is wanting
to know?)
on page 42, comes with cd too, cost is 14.95
********************
"We ae now going to learn to play in the 2nd position
or what is commonly called "Cross Harp". Although we
are using a 'C' Harmonica, we will actually play in
the key of 'G'. Harmonica players use this technique a
great deal in order to solo or play the blues. When
you play cross harp, there are morte inhale notes than
exhale notes. This allows for many more exspressive
effects and techniques.
When you buy a harmonica, it is labeled in a certain
key. Count up to 5 letters of the musical alphabet
consists of ABCDEFG, and then starts over again with
A. There is no H, I or J. If you are playing in the
key of 'C'. tart with C and count up 5, like CDEFG. G
is the key you will be play cross harp in. If you own
a D Harmonica, you would play cross harp in the key of
A - DEFGA. The A Harmonica would play in in the key of
E -ABCDE"
*************************
So the chart would be,
C G
D A
E B
F C
G D
A E
Now I get what you mean about "fifths" too
everything is clicking in the window of my brain as
the light of understanding dawns on me.
That is cool.
I wanted to give much thanks to everyone who put up
with me and the good friends who wrote to me off list.
I'mm getting there.. Now to learn some songs.. grin
Thanks!
R.J.
