Re: [Harp-L] Recording gear
n-Track is your best bet for a cost-effective and comprehensive software recording package. It handles both DirectX and VST plug-ins (if this isn't important to you yet, it will be). It's pretty stable, a *lot* more intuitive to use than high $ programs like Cakewalk, Cubase, Nuendo or Pro Tools and offers pretty good customer service.
Check out the user forum at n-Track's website (www.fasoft.com) and you'll find a civil and well-informed community of users who are glad to help newbies, which is an extremely valuable asset all by itself. If you download the demo version, I'm confident you'll spring for the $70 or so that they're charging for the full version.
No affiliation, just a satisfied user.
