How to plan for success

Gang of Guitar Gunslingers and Heavy Breathers :

Topics fly in and out that are really useful to help one learn and play better , I for one am really thankful for this guitar forum . I belong to many now and have reaped a kings ransom from the many great posts , like the one Doug just threw down plugging some books he has no affiliation with other than these books have helped him and Doug's wanting to pass along a good thing with out plugging his stuff that is good stuff too is a tribute to his honesty and integrity . And that's what I am coming to now in this post :

What is it that successful people have in common ? What is the common thread that these individuals have that sets them off from the rest ? And more importantly , what is it that will help a person to reach his goals and in particular those goals of the aspiring musician who wants to try to become a success in the music business as a musician and or producer of music acts .

Besides the "exception to the rule type success story of a guy and girl on a street corner landing a recording contract and then following through with a hit like " Tinbuk3 " from the 80's , lets wonder what it took for some one who is :

Not in the business through being in the middle of the world of entertainment like New York City , Nashville , Chicago , San Francisco or Tokyo Japan , London England or Buenos Aires Argentina , Moscow Russia , Montreal Canada , Madrid Spain or Rome Italy .

What's a person to do , how does one get that " savvy , that know how , the basics " .

With some its the " family " of musical performers that impart this knowledge of learning your instrument , and the knowledge of the business of how to negotiate a contract to protect you and your musicians .

But for the individual who has none of the above to help him , it is a nightmare to solve and be successful .

I just read one of the most concise , thorough , in-depth , attention to small and big important details in a book on becoming a successful person in the music industry . This book is for anyone who is wanting to get as much practical and technical info on a way into music as a serious occupation and profession . The writer of this book must have had some of the best in the business around him all his life to be able to offer such a detailed analysis in this book and present it in a way that makes you go hmmmmmmm this guys is my kind of crazy , because you have to be a little crazy to think about trying to make it in music professionally . Music as an industry is at times a dirty business and always a tuff nut to try and crack every day you are involved with it , believe these words , they are as true as the sun in the sky and no rain in a desert . I didn't make up these rules about the music game , they are hard facts and that's is it , they just are as they are learn t!
o cope and deal with it and don't complain once your in the saddle and committed to being a success in music most fine and foul .

I was born into a professional performing arts family that gave me a unbelievable education in not only becoming a class act performer ( provided there is talent , the rest can be taught and or learned ) and dealing with the other side of the game , the part of collecting your money , the part of learning how to sell your act sight unseen to a prospective club owner , museum , private party , this list is only limited to your limits . I was taught how to be a leader , and how to cultivate people who are in your act , what it takes to get the best out of a person(s) , and how to get the best out of yourself too .

I am an exception to the rule in most cases because I was so lucky to have been blessed into a family of pro's , and I know from my personal experience that the vast majority of musicians today are not from this type of background . And also I know the vast majority of " newbies " trying to break into show business are also from the back ground of having no one in there family , friends , associates , city or country at times that have this type of help to offer and learn from like I did and the author of " The Musicians Handbook " Mr. Randy Singer . He is also member of many of the harmonica forums and is also a guitar player too .

Randy Singers book is not just a recipe for a musician to be successful , these words he has assembled are blue print for anyone to be successful in what ever endeavor they choose to engage themselves in period , it's just an added treat to know he is coming from a musician to musician point of view and attack .

If your a casual musician and not seeking fame or fortune in music you still will gain and reap a bountiful harvest of musical " savvy " , and its side benefits will affect your life outside the music game too in very positive ways as well , either way you will not loose if you get this book period .

Do your self a favor get it . Randy didn't do anything to me but inspire me long before I read this book he wrote , in fact I saw others in the harmonica forum make really great remarks in the posts they made regarding how they felt about Randy's book . When I read it , I felt compelled to write what I felt were its many strong points others would love to know about and appreciate and more over use to help them gain their success in music .
