The Melody Maker tuning just gives you a major scale in 2nd position 
without the 3 draw 2 step bend and the 5 overblow.  Having all the 
notes of the scale available makes it possible to play a number of 
interesting modes.  For instance, a harp tuned to the G scale in 2nd 
position (which would marked "G" in the Lee Oskar system, but would 
be based on an C harp in 1st position) really lends itself to playing 
in A minor, which is 5th position to the root scale and 4th position 
to the major (MM) scale, the relative minor mode.  Very useful.
