Re: Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On

Hi Alec,

Nice Tune!!!!!!!!!!, also a great Funk Bros story about how James
Jamerson (Bass) played and read the chart while laying down on his back, as
he had a bit too much to drink, but still played his butt off!!!,-))

I've always played "What's Goin' On" in the key of E, from reading your
post, I think maybe you are too??

The opening tho should be over an E Major 6/9 chord

Verse Changes:

"Mother, Mother there's too many of you to cry"
is E 6/9 down to C#m7

then:
"You know we've got to find a way, to bring some lovin' here today"
is F#m7 to A/B (bass) aka B11

Bridge & outro: (scat etc)
Am7 (8 bars) to B11 (4 bars)

You can do this on Chromatic, think the key of "E" major and "Am" on the
bridge
also, you can play it on Diatonic in Cross on an A harp if you only play the
solos and not the "head" (melody).

I hope this helps a bit and is not too confusing,-)))
