Re: mail order to Canada
Just wanted to thank everyone for all their answers. Actually, looks like
many of them were off list, so for the benefit of all, here is the summary:
1) By default, it looks like online stores that sell harmonicas
(coast2coast, harmonicas&stuff, harmonicastore.com, etc) use US express
post. Within the US, this is ok as it costs just a few bucks. But to Canada,
it basically doubles the price of a "mid-range" harp like the Hohner Special
20. I don't know if anyone from Canada pays $25 to ship a $25 harp, but it's
not an option for me.
2) A canadian place that has good selection, excellent prices, and ships for
cheap ($6 Can to Ottawa), is Wilson Music Services at 1 888 720 - HARP ,
located in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).
3) Of course, if you live near border, you can drive there but personally, I
have not found US prices for in-store products to be any better than
Canadian price, once exchange rate is factored in.
4) Get it mailed to a US address (e.g. relatives) and get them to send it
snail-mail to you. Getting a bit convoluted but would be better than
nothing.
Option 2 is best by far. I went with #2 so I'm eagerly awaiting my low-F
harp. Cheers,
Oliver
