Are you for real ?  Do you know that those were lefty's  to cool
I always thought some one picked up the harp and started play'n
you can't see which way it is   when your play'n  I was shown to play 
ol' suzanna and the teacher my mom's friend  Myrth used the numbers to show me where to start.    so that is how he does it.  interesting idea about cupping and lefties

i don't mean to start any arguments or anything,
but do you have any evidence that "many or most of the
Chicago players" play their harps upside-down? Little
Walter, Big Walter, James Cotton, Junior Wells, George
"Harmonica" Smith, Jerry Portnoy, Charlie
Musselwhite... any of these guys? it seems to me the
players who used their harps "numbers down" were
strictly in the minority, based on the relatively few
people "known" for playing their harps upside-down:
William Clarke, Sonny Terry, Paul Butterfield...
another thing to consider is that some of these
"upsidedowners" were left handed, which may have
affected the choice to hold the harp that way, perhaps
by giving them a better cup on the low notes (assuming
they hold the harp in their right hand and cup with
the left).
anyway... just thought i'd ask.
