RE: playing harp as a kid (was: Howard Levy in the school system)

You might also check out Madcat Ruth. He has a couple of
cassettes out with music "mostly for kids".

I suggest you use real harmonica's. I looked at the speedy and judging by
the looks of these things you may lose the older kids. to me these are
suitable for 6 year olds. Also a real harp would allow ensemble playing to
some extent, some playing rhythm and others playing melody.

I've considered doing this but I don't think I could inspire people to play.
Maybe in a year or two. But I've been thinking about how to inspire people
and what I would do is cut a CD with great harmonica tracks of varying
styles to allow kids to see all that can be done with a harmonica. I would
probably include something by:

The harmonicats or other ensemble playing.
Charlie McCoy (The real McCoy)
Norton Buffalo
Brendan Power
Howard Levy
Toots - Sesame street theme maybe?
Something bluesy and fun if there is such a thing?

The list is short because most of the music I know is for adults. I would
like more fun stuff but I do not know many of these if anyone has any ideas
for good tracks to include I would like to hear them.

Which makes me think, there a huge market for kids music, some talented
musician on harp-l could cut a kids harmonica CD and make some bucks at the
same time. I have a friend who is a local jazz singer and pianist who did
that and the CD is wonderful (no amazing). We kidnapped Jennifer from
Vancouver by the way. Jennifer lives in Montreal now to our delight.

Link to Jennifer's CD suitable for adults and kids under 8.
