Paul- If you are looking to play traditional blues styles like, Delta, =
Chicago and West Coast Jump/Swing etc. I would consider starting with a =
"Richter Tuned, 10-Hole, Diatonic Harmonica". The 10-Hole Diatonic of =
today is (for this discussion) the same as those played by the fathers =
of the style. I don't mean to say that the blues cannot be played on =
other harps, XB40's, Chromatics and Valved the same. However, the most =
common form of materials for you to study ~Blues Harmonica~ will be in =
the 10-Hole Diatonic form.
That said. I like my XB40's for blues just fine. I prefer the 10 =
hole diatonic.

P.S. -Here's a few Diatonics you can consider.
 Lee Oskar (Diatonic)
 Hohner Marine Band
 Hohner Special 20
 Hering Vintage =20
 Bushman Souls Voice
