I find one of the best ways to get the party started (besides
intrinsically happy people or alcohol) is to talk to the guests before
the show or during the break. I thank them for being there and ask THEM
WHAT IS THEIR FAVORITE SONG OR IF THERE ARE ANY CELEBRATIONS THEY WISH
TO COMMEMORATE.
Even if you do not have their favorite song, offer to play something
similar. Once they feel honored in this way, you increase the chances
they will dance and this encourages others to either dance as well or
it tells others that "wow, you must be good, look at those people
dancing!" Dedicate the song to them before you play it. Like smokey,
shine the light on the audience, make them the star. You will shine
like the moon shine via reflection of the sun.
Talk to your audience as if they were One person. Speak intimately and
proudly. There is a wall that exists between you and the audience. Do
not expect them to climb it. Break it down.
