I have a dirty little battery amp called a "Starfire" that was so cheap
it was given to me. It is solid state has gain, tone, and a third knob
called "tube" which adds phat filth... It works so well that I had a
friend buy a cheap rechargeable drill battery and wire it up so we can
now recharge it.
This is no Fender - it is loud enough for street performance.
My previous band used to give me a hard time about my Peavey Tweed Twin
and one night in a small gig they made the usual announcement warning
the patrons that the lights of the venue would "dim" once I turned the
Twin on... so I sat the Starfire in front of it (which no one noticed)
and used it as my stage amp for the first bracket and got away with it.
Look for a Starfire in a garage sale or at a swop meet - can't be worth
more than $20 tops - but has a class of its own!
Cheers Ian
