the Mouse has a great rep, seeing as how it's been the
choice of NYC street musicians for decades now. as
someone else mentioned, Adam Gussow used/s one, as did
Sugar Blue and a few others. it's a shame they can be
hard to find, but usually the price is good (about
$100). try swap meets.
players i know swear that Kim Wilson has recorded with
a Pignose before, but i think the "Legendary" model is
a bit small and featureless. i'm very happy with my
Hog 20 (long life, good sound, can be LOUD, good
features), though i'll admit i haven't hit the street
with it yet. i play it at home with either a Green
Bullet (nasty) or an SM-57 (bassy and clean). as they
say on harmony-central, if i lost mine, i'd definitely
get another.
Crate i've heard mixed reviews of. some say it's just
too feedback prone. of course, i've heard the same of
the Hog, but i haven't had that problem.
there's other amps, like the HoneyTone, which some use
for busking but i think would probably not be useful
on stage at all.
good luck...
