Re: Volume Question

Volume controls on mics need to be at or near max to get the best results out
of your amp/mic combo. Keeping in mind that this is a generality depending
very much on variables like what kind of amp and mic you're using: set the mic
vc at max level, bring your amp volume up enough to just get on the edge of
feedback, then back off on the mic vc just a notch or two, to get it under
control. As a rule when using vc mics I keep the mic at around 8-9 out of 10 during
comping, backing etc, and wide open to get more cut for solo work. Lots of
other variables are at work here, dynamics of your own resonant chamber and
breath volume control not being the least of them. Tone control levels on the amp
play a big role in this too, and every amp is different. There are other
mic/amp techniques that also come into play, but maybe that's a topic for another
post. Hope that helps.
