turner 22x microphone modification

Recently installed a controlled reluctance element in an old turner 22-x 
sheel that I had.  The sound is great.  Unfortunately, the fin on the top of 
the mic is quite annoying.  Has anyone messed with removing this fin to make 
it more comfortable to cup?  If so, how did you mod the shell?
