There was recently an interview with Béla on NPR where he discussed 
exactly how difficult it was to become "at home" with classical 
music.  He talks about the amount of work it took first just to learn 
to play the classical pieces, but then to really be able to express 
himself by interpreting those pieces, and how hard it was to have the 
stamina to put himself through the practice regimen he needed to pull
