After much searching I was able to find a free educational tool called "Species Checker".  You
write the counterpoint (Cantus Firmus, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th species), it checks and reveals
all the rules you've broken.  Its a Java program so it works on just about any computer.
