Hi JP,
Why soak the harp in alcohol twice?
Residue and gunk remain present after the first soaking. Residue remaining in the solutions can get caught up in the reeds causing problems. I pitch the dirty alcohol and put the harp into a fresh bath. Similar reason why I would rinse a baby in clean water vs.dirty bath water.
Hot water doesn't seem to cut through gunk as well as alcohol. I use hot water to rinse off the alcohol.
As far as wooden comb harps...as I mentioned, I'd throw them away. I have been given used harps by well meaning people. After graciously thanking them...they end up in File 13. Personal choice.
Denise
