Re: [Harp-L] Running Jams
In upstate NY theres a couple of regular jams. The one on Sunday night is
the one I've alway's liked.
It's been on for 13 years so far. Every month a different band get's to host
and most of us know each
other. Most of the hosts and players are very open to new attendees as well
as green players. We were
all there at one point. My band somehow got the months of January and
February so hopefully they'll
both go like most month's do.
My folks live in Wilmington, NC and theres a Tuesday night jam I frequent
when in town. One thing that
I like (I hated it at first) is the board. They have a board on the wall
with numbered set's. When you get there
you check the board for an open slot for your instrument. When set #7 ends
and your on set#8, you get up
and play. I've had some great situations and some horrible ones there too
but every time you get to play with
whoever you sign on with. Most sets are 3 tunes and when your done you can
sign for another. I've been there a
couple times where a couple guy's would ask me to sign on for the set that
they were on so you can pick your jam
mates if you want too. A little different than what I used to but very
efficient and usually problem free.
