[Harp-L] What's it called?

I remember reading about this device that looks like a block of wood;  it gets plugged into an amp, and when you tap your foot on it, it generates something between a bass drum and bass guitar-type tone.  Good for accompanying solo guitar/harp.
Can anyone tell me:
    1.    It's name?
    2.    Approximate cost?
    3.    Where I can find one?

Also:  does anyone have a software package they use to help put together promo kits?
