Re: [Harp-L] reed replacement
Hmm... sorry about this. I've already written this and thought I'd sent it (or maybe I just forgot the send it to the list), but obviously not. So, I'll rewrite my reply to the original search for me and the interest in replacing reeds...
Hey there,
I only really started thinking about the replacement of reeds when constructing my own harmonica (what I wrote about in the AHN is the final vision which will be constructed slowly depending on time and money. In about two months, I will have the silver comb and reedplates as specified, but other things like the milled slide system and integrated mouthpiece and covers wil take some more time). The only reason I'm bothering to rivet all of my own reeds on, is I want a 1mm thick, flat, plated longslot plate, which is no longer available (old Hard Bopper plates would have fitted the bill). Before then, I had never really had need to remove/rivet any reeds at all. Because of this, I am in no way an expert in reed replacement, and for information on that, you are much better to ask those of us more experienced or have a look at Pat Missin's Altered States or links off of G's Chromatic Reference. For where to find the required stuffs (plates etc and replacement reeds) the best place is www.harponline.de (as Doug mentioned).
Any other questions and I will be happy to try and answer.
All the best
Jamie
