can anyone confirm that Fourth on a C harp is in the key of A?
It is in the key of "A", but don't think of it as "A Major" unless you are an
advanced player. The advanced player can place this position into a "Major"
key by conscious controlled use of bends at the 4 hole inhale, 5 hole overblow
and the 6 hole inhale.
Position playing is usually based on modal harmony. Fourth Position is the
Aeolian Mode, a minor mode with a minor sixth.
An easily accessable song that plays well in this mode is "Summertime". If I
remember correctly, Madcat used to play an excellent version of "St. James
Infirmary" in Fourth Position.
