[Harp-L] high impedence input (was Re : controlled magnetic mic elements )
Hi Eric and fellow gearheads
You may already know this, but I'm sure there's someone out there
that needs some clarification. What Ironman Mike is talking about is the
impedence that the element "sees", not the type of cable. A crystal
element works a lot better with a 5 meg input than the typical guitar amp
circuit input of 1 meg. There is a resistor inside the amp, sometimes
right on the input jack, that accomplishes this. For a few pennies and
less time than it's taking me to write this you can make a crystal mic
sound like it's supposed to (provided you have a good element to start
with). I've been doing several mods to my Blues Deville, as well as
successfully building my own amp from scratch, and I can assure you that
this is one of the most important, yet easy-to-accomplish things you can
take advantage of, if ya wanna run a crystal mic and aren't happy with it.
Over and out..........
