Who get's you work

Blues harp players have complained about Dylan for years, but he got them
more work than probably anyone else; just like saxophone players
complaining about Kenny G.! Even Adler used to say Dylan stinks while
getting the recognition for the harmonica that Dylan brought.

So the truth is if Sting plays the harmonica, or Morissette, or James
Taylor, or Tyler, or anyone famous, it brings work to the good players.
Some guy is going to ask you to play just like Morissette or Dylan on a
commercial - laugh all the way to the bank.

I always liked Dylan's playing anyhow - just imagine a killer harp player
on those songs and you see it just isn't right. What you don't play is
just as important as what you do play!

The real person to ask about Dylan anyhow would be John Sebastian, Jr. who
used to hang at Folk City and the Night Owl Cafe in New York with that
crowd.

And remember to smile every time a harmonica makes it into the limelight,
even if it isn't your cup of tea - you will be getting more work.

Harmonically yours,
