Re: recordings
HR: Thanks so much for your kind comments... and
thanks to all of you who took the time to listen and
respond. I really appreciate it, and I hope more harp
players who have recordings will submit them to this
list. I have a couple of songs on "THE DISC" and am
looking forward to hearing everyone's stuff.
To answer your questions... I have basically been
playing the harmonica seriously for about four years,
although I messed around with it here and there for
years before that. When I picked it up four years
ago, I knew how to blow a major scale and could bend a
little bit, but had no idea about cross harp, TB vs.
pucker or positions or any of that. I was a bass
player in high school and college and have been a
singer since I was about 12 (in bands, choirs, a
cappella groups etc.).
I played stock Special 20s on all of these, except
that on "Ain't No Sunshine" I alternated between a C
Special 20 in fourth position and a Chinese CX-12
chromatic clone (also C in 4th position). Sunshine
amd Magnolia were recorded into a tube vocal mic, some
kind of preamp, and into the board... Mojo and Turn
Out Fine were recorded with an SM-57 through a Fender
Pro Junior... TOF had the amp miced with a basic
instrument mic, and on Mojo we used that tube vocal
mic to mic the amp. Kind of an experiment, which
worked I think. I played bass on Magnolia Road... the
names of the other musicians and the studio can be
seen on:

I live in Jackson Mississippi, where I mostly grew
up... I left for college in 1988 and lived all over
the northeast (NYC, Boston, DC twice, Connecticut),
Ohio, san Diego and L.A. Finally came back to Jackson
about a year ago. It is a great place for music...
just seems to drip out of the air. I play mostly in
this general area (between New Orleans and Memphis)
but am hoping to start doing some touring in the fall.
I gigged a lot in DC between 2000 and 2003.
Thanks again and keep rockin'...

Hello Scott :
Besides the super quality in the actual recording
process of these tunes , your performance was really
nice, a real piece of work ya did . I liked the fact
that you did it your way and showed your individual
style on both your originals and the cover tunes . How
long have you been at on the harp ? . Your command of
this litte thing called a harp shows
your no novice at all :)
What did you use for the recording process ? What
harptype(s)/brand(s) were chosen , mic set up ,
etcetera ... And do you or did you play any
other instrumets on these recording ? Thank you for
sharing them for all of us to enjoy because I dug em a
whole lot :)
One more question , where do you live and perform your
stuff ?
I think many in this forum would like to catch your
act if they are close to you area .
