Weight

I once was very interested in double plating my
reedplates. I experimented a couple times and then
lost interest. This ~cat whisker~ thread got me
thinking again- and I thought I'd try to save myself
some time by asking if anyone else has done this:
Has anyone expermented with adding weight- just for
weight's sake? I loved the double-plated, old style,
marine bands I had, because of the weight and possible
increased volume. Maybe I just like the weight [we
need not argue as to whether it did actually increase
the potential volume]. Has anyone soldered on pieces
of iron on the edges and in-between the reedplates- as
a kind of valve/doubleplating experiment? Old
reedplates, with the reed spaces hollowed out further
also achieves this of course, but then you run into
the need for longer screws, cover plates or comb that
doesn't fit etc..
Thanks in advance,
Robb
