Performers VS Entertainers!

The gussing thread seems to generally bring out a big difference in attitude 
with respect to musical presentation.  One group of either performers or 
audience seems to view the presentation as an event to be observed only.  The 
second group sees the event as an audience participation opportunity.  Both are 
probably correct depending on the situation.

If you are a performer and the audience is there primarily to see your 
performance, then it is extremely rude for anyone to try to participate by playing 
an instrument, singing along or tapping on the table.

On the other hand, if you are there to entertain and the audience is there to 
have fun, it serves the needs of both groups to have the audience 
participate, up to a point.  Such an audience can accomodate a little gussing (with 
performer control) and the audience might even wish to hear the "pretender" perform.

It's all part of why good entertainers are always in demand and only the 
better performers tend to be able to consistently attract an audience.  It has to 
do with making folks feel they are a part of what is going on -- alowing them 
to have a good time.  

Just my humble thought.  Could be wrong.  Have been before.
