With a large purchase you either need to know the seller very well or
use an escrow service.  Good feedback records are pretty tough to fake
and if you really read the feedback and it's extensive and over a
reasonable time frame you're usually pretty safe.  Unscrupulous people
are everywhere but my e-bay experiences have been many and positive.  I
do know people that have been less than satisfied.  The reality of most
credit card purchases is you're out there in the cold if anything bad
happens, try disputing a charge made over the internet.  fjm
