Tips for special 20 surgery?

Masters of Mouthorgan,

I'm thinking I might have a hand at tinkering with a couple of Special 
20's.  What is the list's collective wisdom concerning reedplate and 
cover fixing.  Is it better to replace the old nails vice replacing with 
screws?  If screws what's the best way to go about it?  What special 
tools will be needed?

What about micropore tape and other such comb sealing tricks?  Is this 
necessary on plastic combed harps?
