Know how to sound best in this situation? 

Sing along (softly to yourself - even if you don't have a good singing voice) 
with the lead singer, pretending that you are the vocalist. Then, play harp 
fills as you would for yourself. This way, you naturally stay out of the way 
and also gain a better understanding of the song and its lyrics.
