Emails like this are permitted under the rules for Harp-L and have been
since its inception. The rule of thumb is that they're permitted as long as
they're not obnoxious or misleading or repeated too often. Subjective
standards, maybe, but 99% of the "sales" emails I've seen here adhere to
these standards.
People like Vern are more craftsmen rather than manufacturers. They often
don't have the means or access to conventional advertising media, so how
would they reach us (the target audience) otherwise?
I look at emails like this more as a public service announcement than a
sales pitch.
I find them valuable, and I have bought products as a result of emails like
this in the past.
This is my opinion. If you don't find these emails useful, you of course can
simply delete them.
