In fairness to the producers and directors of the various pieces (and 
contrary to the subject line of this thread of posts), these were 
never labeled as "documentaries".  As I understand it, each director 
was free to make whatever interpretation of the subject that they 
felt was appropriate.  Charles Burnett's piece ("Warmnig by the 
Devil's Fire") was a fictional story that he called "a story that 
gives you the impression of the blues".  It wasn't Ken Burns' "Blues" 
(though that would be something to see!).
