fifth position

I've been working on my major pentatonic scale in second position. Is this 
similar to fifth position? If I'm on an F harp, playing a C major pentatonic 
scale and I want to modulate to A minor, do I mostly play the same notes or 
do I have to learn a few more holes? 

Also, does the major pentatonic scale work for Me and My Uncle by the 
Grateful Dead? I can almost pick out the melody with that scale, but not 
quite.
