English harmonica player Mat Walklate has a CD of traditional music called
'Harmonica and Flute' available. You can read a review of his CD at
http://www.mustrad.org.uk/reviews/walklate.htm . Actually I find this review
quite refreshing. It's nice to read a review of a harmonica CD by a
non-harmonica player who will give a sincere report of what he hears without
being biased in favor of the harmonica player (when was the last time you
read a review of a harmonica CD where the review was done by another
harmonica player and the review wasn't absolutely glowing? In the real world
professional reviewers call the shots as they seem see them). Despite this,
the reviewer is very positive about Mat's CD. He also makes an interesting
observation about the status of the harmonica in traditional Irish music
from a non-harmonica players perspective.
You can learn about Mat's musical background at
http://www.talented.fsnet.co.uk/mat.html . Detail of the tracks on his CD
and which harmonica he uses are listed at the bottom of the page.
Cheers,
Paul
