Re: Flarble was Flutter was TB

"Finally, I'm not that crazy about"tongue lift" to
describe a repetitive motion. I think of a tongue lift
as the opposite of a tongue slap, i.e. block several
holes then lift for a chord. I think the repetetive
blocking action we are discussing(often referred to
incorrectly as flutter, but not quite accurately IMO
as a lift) needs yet another name,"

funny you should say that. the night before the TB
thread got started, i was writing a question to the
list (which i never sent) about a technique i heard
Lester Butler doing on "Wish You Would." i just
couldn't figure out what it was. sounded to me like
flapping. like a flapping warble. i briefly nicknamed
it a "Flarble." terrible name for a harp technique
though.
anyways... i figured out it was what Winslow was
describing as a "toungue lift" (i agree with you about
this name, Fred. just not repetitive.) probably
combined with good, deep vibrato. it's just that i
can't do it well enough to imitate Lester. no surprise
there.
anywho... how's about "tongue flaps" or just
"flappin'"?

oh, and that "Raspberry" you were talking about,
where it's on your hard palate instead of your lips?
that's just a "roll," as in, when you "roll" your r's
in spanish. same motion. (though i don't advocate
changing the name to "roll"...)
does anyone have any tips on the soft palate "snore"
technique?? i don't snore :(
