Hi all,
i've recently received a chromatic 3 octave
harmonica in diminished tuning (or "dimmie") (key of
C.)
for the purpose of clarity, the blow notes (slide
out) are tuned in a repeated pattern of: C, Eb, F#, A,
and the repeating draw not pattern is : D, F, Ab, B.
the slide raises each note a semitone.
i have very little experience playing in solo tuning
on a chromatic, though i am rather used to playing the
bottom 2 octaves of a diatonic harmonica.
my interest is mostly in playing (non-abstract, old
standards) jazz on this thing, but some blues would be
nice too.
i am writing in the hopes that some of you will have
ideas as to how i should proceed learning on this
instrument. for example:
1.) which scales should i learn first?
2.) should i learn certain keys first?
3.) should i learn to read in C? Bb? some other key?
4.) are there dimmie-specific patterns i should
learn?
any help is welcome. please respond either to the
list, or to JpL_Pagan AT yahoo.com. thanks.
