Cheap affordable amp

I've messed around a little bit with a Pignose, using a Shure SM150 mic,
but I've found feedback to be a major problem, such that I don't think I'd
bother trying it again, unless someone has a solution that doesn't involve 
soldering irons, tubes, and electronics textbooks.  I would like to have
some kind of busking and very-small-room amp, though.  Mike - I don't
believe you mentioned feedback in your post - was it something you had
to deal with?
