As an old dead head, I've tried a bit of the same. 
Don't be afraid to leave the mode and return; if you
listen, that's what the dead did, though not always
all at once!  Wharf Rat is another good choice for
this kind of thing and has a little more structure
than 'Darkstar'. - Alan
