As some of you may recall, some time ago I was in seach of a good chromatic blues harp book/CD set. For the longest time my chromatic harp just sat there collecting dust. I just didn't know how to play the darn thing (and I paid good $ for it, too!). David Barrett and MelBay have come out with Blues Chromatic for the Diatonic Player. It is fantastic! For anyone who has wanted to broaden his/her harp skills to include blues chromatic playing, this book/CD set is a godsend.

In this set, Barrett walks you through the whole process of playing blues chromatic harp, particularly in the styles of such greats as George Smith, William Clarke, Rod Piazza, and Mark Hummel. You'll notice the subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between diatonic and chromatic playing in a hurry. One particularly challenging technique is the FIVE-WHOLE OCTAVE, where your lips are covering five wholes and you're tongue-blocking the mi!
ddle three. It sounds great once you get it right, but boy do you have to shove that chromatic DEEP into your chops (Hint: open wide and smile big).

This book/CD set is just what I needed. Now, I no longer feel like "half a harmonica player." Like all Barrett/MelBay collaborations, this book/CD is high-quality. Barrett sells it on his Harmonica Masterclass website (http://www.harmonicamasterclass.com), or you can get it at http://www.coast2coastmusic.com.

Hope you all find this useful.
