as stated previously, i mark my harps with a paint pencil (white on black 
sp20).  they are marked on the low end.  sometimes it will start to rub off, but 
it's hardly an inconvenience to remark them.
i store them standing up (got that from looking a picture on a carlos del 
junco cd) in a tool box.  they are divided/supported by wooden slats, with less 
than a 1/8" wiggle room in each compartment.  
i line them up low to high.
the only troubles i've ever had was putting something in the wrong slot or 
grabbing the wrong one entirely...which is to say, it was the operator, not the 
system.
